St. Ignace Car Show 1997 |

Presented in January 1966 and the second vehicle in the Firebird series, the Firebird II gas-turbine car is a four seat comfortable family version designed and engineered for the "highway of the future" and guidance system.
The gas-turbine engine (Whinfire GT-304) developed at General Motors Research, produces 200 hp at 35,000 rpm.
Two (2) Firebird II experimental vehicles were produced. The first one being a fiberglass running model for all road testing and the second of titanium which was for show purposes only. Both of the Firebirds exist today...the fiberglass here, presently being displayed.
Note: My camera and notes were destroyed when we got into a roll-over accident on the way home from the 1997 car show. I will post owner information when/if they become available. Luckily, I did not drive my 68 but my Saturn was destroyed.
